An eight-minute-long film pays tribute to the only place in India that makes the national flag: Bengeri, a suburb in eastern Hubballi. The Karnataka Khadi Gramodyoga Samyukta Sangha there is the only organisation authorised to make the tricolour.

A Bengaluru-based production house has shot Namana, a documentary, to pay tribute to the men and women who strive round the year to produce the flags. The film will be out on Tuesday to mark India’s 70th Independence Day.

The objective of Rangan Studios, which made the film in association with Namma Karnataka Memes, is to promote flags made in India and discourage the plastic ones imported from China.

Namana, which can be seen on YouTube, is a salute to a South Indian city’s gentle spirit of nationalism.
