In his maiden address to the nation on the eve of Independence Day, newly elected President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday stressed on the importance of education and technology among masses. Lauding major decisions of the government including demonetisation and implementation of GST, Kovind said the world today is looking at India with admiration. Talking about new India, Kovind said there are some obvious parameters like a house for every family, better roads and telecom, a modern railway network for every individual.

7:21 pm Talking about the importance of education, Kovind appeals people to try to educate as many children they can beside providing education to their own children.” Enrol and pay the school fees or buy the books of at least one child other than your own; just one!”, said Kovind

I would urge you, as fellow nation builders, to help educate less-privileged children in our society. In a few years we will become a fully literate society; we must set the bar higher& aim to become a fully educated society: Kovind

7.17 pm: We must heed the call for that extra degree of selflessness, that extra something beyond just duty. Our soldiers who guard our borders are not just doing their duty; they are displaying an extra degree of selflessness. Police and paramilitary forces that brave death to combat terrorism or crime are not just doing their duty. They are displaying an extra degree of selflessness.Can each of us not imbibe this spirit of selflessness? We can and we have: President Kovind
7:16 pm Technology is important for rapid growth and development, it has to be used to eradicate poverty. There should be no place for poverty in new India: Kovind
7:15 pm: In the new India, the society should have no discrimination between boy and girl, their should be no religious or caste based discrimination: Kovind
7.15 pm: Today, the world is looking at India with admiration. The Tokyo Olympics of 2020 offer another opportunity for us to raise our standing in the world’s eyes. As citizens of India – whether we live at home or abroad – we must ask ourselves how we can add to our country’s pride: Kovind

7.10 pm: Sardar Patel instilled in us the importance of national unity and integrity. Babasaheb Ambedkar urged the virtues of constitutional governance, of rule of law – and of the vital need for education. The generation that brought us to freedom was diverse: Kovind
7:09 pm: Mahatma Gandhi emphasised the moral character of India and of Indian society. The principles that Gandhiji spoke about are relevant even today. For this we owe so much to the countless freedom fighters who made great sacrifices to bring us here. From earliest days of our freedom struggle, we were blessed with a galaxy of revolutionary leaders who guided our country: Kovind
7:08 pm: It is time that we must take inspiration from those who gave their lives for the nation and move forward. We should work with unity and purpose to ensure that the benefits of government policies reach all sections of society: Kovind

7:06 pm Kovind remembers freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country from the clutches of British rule. “It was much more than that; it was culmination of a dream for our country – a dream seen by forefathers and freedom fighters. We were free to imagine and build our nation anew,” said Kovind.
