The medical college proposed at the district headquarters is going to catch the attention of political parties and authorities once again. Former whip T. Jayaprakash Reddy has declared indefinite fast in demand of the sanctioning of medical college at Sangareddy. This was the second medical college issue that has been in the storm.
The medical college was promised by former chief ministers – N. Chandrababu Naidu, late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and N. Kiran Kumar Reddy – in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. After the formation of Telangana State, local legislator Chinta Prabhakar had reportedly submitted a memorandum urging the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to sanction the promised medical college to the district headquarters. However, the ruling party legislator was unable to bring the required pressure on the government.
The Congress party has alleged that that the sanctioned medical college was diverted to Siddipet since the district was being represented by KCR and Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao. The ruling party’s argument was that the college was never sanctioned and it was only a promise on paper without any government orders in effect, to pave way for the sanction.
Mr. Jayaprakash Reddy said that they were not against sanction of medical college for Siddipet, but they want a medical college for Sangareddy as well.
This was the second medical college issue that has been controversial with the other one being from Karimnagar.
Former Lok Sabha member Ponnam Prabhakar had declared indefinite fast with similar demand. He was arrested two days later, and was shifted to government hospital for treatment.
