The Nadigar Sangam passed a resolution on Sunday stating that the statue of actor Sivaji Ganesan should be placed in a prominent place in the city. Following a meeting, the association said Sivaji Ganesan was a major influence and inspiration for not just the film industry, but for the public at large.

“We will present our resolution to the State government and urge them to consider keeping the statue of the legendary actor in a prominent place,” a release said.

Nadigar Sangam president Nassar had made the same demand when he met the then Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on January 12 after the Madras High Court said that the statue could be shifted.

Earlier this month, the statue of the thespian on Kamarajar Salai abutting the Marina was removed and the Public Works Department shifted it to a memorial on Durgabai Deshmukh Road.
