BJP chief Amit Shah on Monday rejected the Congress’s demand for Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s resignation over the Gorakhpur hospital tragedy, saying incidents like these happen in a big country like India. “Congress ka kaam hai isteefa maangna. Itne bade desh mein bahut saare haadse hue, pehli baar aisa haadsa nahi hua hai. (It is Congress’s job to ask for resignation. In a big country like India, there have been many such incidents in the past. This is not the first time),” said Shah.
Over 70 children have died at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, since August 7 allegedly over lack of oxygen supply. The National Human Rights Commission has sent a notice to the state government over the deaths.
Adityanath, meanwhile, has ordered the state authorities to celebrate the festival of Krishna Janmashtami that falls on Tuesday in a “grand” way. In a communique issued late on Sunday to the Director General of Police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh, the CM has written: “Krishna Janmashtami is an important festival and the police should organise it in a traditional and grand way.”
Addressing the media on his visit to the state, Shah attacked Congress saying that corruption and scams used to take place in Congress reign, in Narendra Modi’s rule none of the opposition can accuse the government of any scam. He added, “Ye sarkar policy banati hai policy badalti hai aur policy ke aadhar par yojnayein bana kar political will ke saath implementation karti hai. (This government forms policies, amends policies and based on these policies formulates plans and implement them with political will).”
Amit Shah attacked the Congress government led by Siddaramaiah in Karnataka, Shah said that under the 13th Finance Commission the state received Rs 88,583 crore which has been increased to Rs 2,19,506 crore under 14th Finance Commission. Shah asked, “Sriman Siddaramaiah ji ye paisa jaa kaha raha hai, kisan ko nahi mil raha, dalit ko nahi mil raha, garib ko grant nahi mil raha, infrastructure badh nahi raha hai, Karnataka ki janata aapse jawab chahti hai. Maine sarvajanik rup se aapse pucha hai ki Rs 130923 crore ka increase jo hua hai wo kaha gaya hai? (Siddaramaiah, where is the money going, farmers are not getting any assistance, dalits are not getting any support, poor people are not receiving any grant, infrastructure is not increasing, people of Karnataka wants an answer. I am asking this publicly where has the increase of Rs 130923 crores in grants gone?)”
Answering to a question on the IT raid on the Eagleton resort where Gujarat Congress MLAs were holed up ahead of the Gujarat Rajya Sabha election, Shah said, “pehle bhi kai raid hue par us raid me jo hua uspar aap isteefa kyun nahi dete wo Karnataka ki janata ke liye mudda hai, raid mein kala dhan ujagar hota hai, benami sampati ujagar hoti hai in logon ke isteefe Congress party kyun nahi leti? (Raids have been conducted earlier as well, the agenda for people of Karnataka is that a lot of black money was exposed, illegal properties were exposed in that raid, why isn’t the Congress party asking for resignation of these people?)”
Defending Adityanath’s direction on Janmashthami celebrations, Shah said the festival is about people’s personal belief. “Janmashtami apni jagah hai, jaise desh mein hogi, waise UP mein logon ke personal belief ke aadhar par hogi, yeh govt festival nahi. (Janmashtami is at its own place. People of UP will also celebrate the way it will be celebrated in other states. It’s a festival of personal belief, its not a government festival),” the BJP national president said.
