It’s a “Sachin, Sachin” roar at the kabaddi arena

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Fortunegiants (GFG) got a taste of the PKL success, winning its first three homes matches at the Arena by Transstadia.

The team leads Zone-A with 23 points from four wins and a tie against Haryana Steelers at Hyderabad while it has lost one match to the Steelers at Nagpur so far.

While the initial focus was on Sukesh Hegde, Rakesh Narwal and the two Iranian defenders Fazel Atrachali and Abozar Mighani, GFG has found Sachin Tawar gaining reputation after every match.

After making an impact in the third encounter against Steelers, which his team lost, the 18-year-old has taken the league by storm so to say. He has won 33 raid points and four tackle points, and with a tally of 37, he’s fourth in the ongoing league’s honours list behind Rahul Chaudhari (65, Telugu Titans), Rohit Kumar (65, Bengaluru Bulls), and Pardeep Narwal (61, Patna Pirates).

Sachin has been so impressive with his scintillating raids in the three matches against U Mumba, Dabang Delhi KC and Jaipur Pink Panthers, that the crowd here has egged him on, screaming “Sachin, Sachin”, something akin with what spectators did for Sachin Tendulkar at cricket venues.

GFG looks a settled team with the likes of Rohit Gulia, Parvesh Bhainswal, and Sunil Kumar chipping in with solid displays in defence and attack. GFG was cautious and took time against the Jaipur side on Sunday, but it roared to form in the second-half.

Its remaining home matches are against Bengaluru Bulls, Telugu Titans and Bengal Warriors, and it should go to Lucknow with reputation and league position intact.

After Monday’s rest day, competition will resume on Independence Day with the first match between Bengal Warriors and Puenri Paltan at 8 p.m., followed by the clash between GHF and Bengaluru Bulls at 9 p.m.
