After cracking down on cricket betting activities here, the police officials have started thoroughly probing the financial dealings of the bookies with different sections of persons in Nellore city and other parts in the past two days.
The police have taken into custody the main bookie Devalam Krishna Singh and three others on Saturday as part of the ongoing investigation. It may be recalled that nearly 115 persons, including nine main bookies, were arrested over a week ago on the charges of conducting cricket betting activities on a large-scale. Some main bookies were charged with spreading their activities over Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The police seized computers and laptops belonging to the bookies during the arrests.
These were stated to have revealed vital information regarding the bookies’ financial dealings with a cross section of persons.
Based on this information, action was being initiated against two DSPs and two CIs, who were already sent to vacancy reserve.
SP P.H.D. Ramakrishna has been supervising the investigation considering the reports that several politicians and influential persons have been connected with the bookies and their betting activities.
As of now, the police are keen on investigating the properties that were bought by the bookies with the ill-gotten wealth they had amassed by cheating the innocent families here.
The bookies were stated to have informed the police that they had given huge amounts to many influential persons so as to carry out their activities without hurdles.
