Car hits tanker lorry carrying oil from behind in Nalgonda

Two persons died and two others sustained serious injuries in an accident on Monday.

The victims were identified as residents of Kothagudem of Khammam district. Vijay Kumar, 50, a doctor, died while being shifted to the hospital, and Savitri Bai, 70, his mother-in-law, died on the spot. The Kattangur police who rescued the victims said the accident took place around noon near Errasanigudem village in Kattangur mandal when their white sedan hit the oil-carrying tanker from behind.

Also travelling in the car were his wife M. Jhansi Lakshmi, 45, a gynaecologist, and their relative Shoba, a teenager, whose leg got fractured in the accident. Dr. Lakshmi who suffered serious head injuries was said to be critical.

The tragic death of Dr. Vijay Kumar, a noted anaesthetist, came as a shock to the medical fraternity of the coal town. Vijay Kumar was son of former Narsampet MLA and founder of MCPI late M Omkar.

The doctor couple’s only son is pursuing MS (general surgery).

Kothagudem MLA Jalagam Venkat Rao expressed shock over the tragic death of Vijay.
