Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on Tuesday from the ramparts of the Red Fort to mark India's 71st Independence Day.

During his last 'Mann Ki Baat' address on July 30, the Prime Minister had said that August was the month of revolution. He had appealed to the nation to celebrate as 'Sankalp Parva' or 'Day of Resolve'.

"We should celebrate 15th August 2017 as the Sankalp Parva or the Day of Resolve. We have to take pledge to quit un-cleanliness, poverty, terrorism, casteism and communalism from India," he had said.

The Prime Minister had also promised the nation that he would keep his Independence Day address under an hour this time.

The Congress spokesperson said, "I hope the prime minister in his I-Day speech will speak on economic slowdown and employment as the issue is linked with the future of the youth of the nation."

"We have been repeatedly cautioning the government that instead of making boastful claims, this government should go in for urgent course correction which this government has not done," Sharma added.

According to a PTI report, senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma on Monday said that when the prime minister addresses the country from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Tuesday, he should refrain from making more tall promises and false and hollow claims about the achievements of his government.

"We request and advise the prime minister to give an account of how many promises that he made to people of the country in the last three years have been fulfilled. How many jobs has this government created and how many jobs have been lost. And if jobs have not been created, who should we hold responsible," he told reporters.

9:37 PM The Congress on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise to the nation during his Independence Day address for "deliberate criminal negligence" on part of the government that led to the death of over 60 children in a hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur, reported news agency IANS.

9:24 PM At the Red Fort, according to senior police officials quoted by the report, a special team of NSG snipers and commandos will form the inner layers of the security cordon, while anti-aircraft guns have been deployed to thwart any aerial intrusion by objects like drones and projectiles.

The report added that two dozen Parakram Vans manned by quick reaction teams of NSG-trained commandos have been stationed in areas with high footfall to thwart any attempt by terror groups to disrupt peace. As many as 11 such vans have been deployed in the area around the Red Fort.

"There will be multi-tier security in place. The security audit of the residents, including tenants has been completed. The area is being monitored by CCTV cameras and there will be multi-tier security checks in place for people coming to the area," a senior police officer told PTI.

9:19 PM Citing a senior police officer, the report said that close to 70,000 Delhi Police personnel will be guarding the national capital owing to the twin occasions of the Independence Day and Janmashtami festival.

The national capital, including the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation on the 71st Independence Day on Tuesday, has been put under an unprecedented ground-to-air security cover, reported news agency PTI on Monday.

Thousands of security personnel, including 9,100 personnel from the Delhi Police, have been deployed in and around the historic Mughal fort, which will see the presence of senior ministers, top bureaucrats, foreign dignitaries, and common people during the PM's address.
