Union Minister condemns blocking entry of nominated MLAs into Assembly

Union Minister of State for Highways and Shipping Pon. Radhakrishnan on Sunday slammed the Puducherry government for blocking the entry of three nominated MLAs of the BJP into the Assembly.

Addressing reporters after participating in a two-wheeler rally commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Quit India movement, Mr. Radhakrishnan said the “denial of seats to the three nominated MLAs of BJP in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly clearly showed the respect the government had towards Constitution and democracy.”

When asked about Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi’s comments on the port project on her Twitter handle, he said the comments cannot be viewed in a lighter vein. Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy should also come out with firm evidence while making allegations against Ms. Bedi, he said.

Mr. Narayanasamy should refrain from making allegations out of political aversions. The BJP would also form the Government in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in the event of next election. “We will not function like the Congress which is riding piggyback on other parties to run the administration,” Mr. Radhakrishnan said.

On Tamil Nadu getting a one-year exemption from NEET while Puducherry not succeeded despite raising a similar demand, he said it was due to the “failure of the territorial administration to effectively press the case with the Centre.”
