Former MP and JD(S) leader A H Vishwanath has said that both, the Centre and state governments, have no vision but are only targetting on their “mission” to secure the number of seats that they need to win in the upcoming elections.
He was addressing a gathering of ‘Vision Mysuru-2030’, a two-day symposium to discuss the overall development of Mysuru, organised by Chintakara Chavadi, a group of citizens at Ganabharathi in Kuvempunagar here.
Vishwanath said that while the Union government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aimed at ‘Mission 350’, two national parties in the state are aiming at ‘Mission 150’ and ‘Mission 130’. According to Vishwanath, mission refers to the number of seats to win in the upcoming elections for Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, respectively.
With regard to the tourism sector in Karnataka, Vishwanath said that no state governments have conducted proper surveys to explore tourism in Karnataka. The Union government can give approval to various schemes only if the state government submits a report, he said.
Lauding the solid waste management unit established by former MLA D Madegowda at Kumbarakoppal in the city, Vishwanath said that while representatives from neighbouring states had visited the plant to collect information, the authorities here failed to establish another such unit in the city.
Vishwanath recalled that in 2003, the state government did not allocate funds for celebration of Mysuru Dasara due to drought and the festival was celebrated with sponsored funds. “We (celebration committee) had saved Rs 1 crore out of it and handed over the same to the government,” he said.
