Says ruling regime subservient to BJP

DMK working president M.K. Stalin on Saturday said that if the AIADMK government had taken a subservient stand on issues like NEET and imposition of Hindi, it was because of the BJP government at the Centre.

Asked whether the BJP was responsible for the split in the ruling party, as claimed by party organ Dr. Namadhu MGR, Mr. Stalin said he wasn’t sure. “But I strongly believe that the AIADMK government has become subservient and has given up on the State’s rights on major issues because of the BJP,” he said.

Reacting to Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami’s claim that his government had already won the trust vote, Mr. Stalin said the DMK moved a no-confidence motion only against the Speaker.

“The trust vote against the AIADMK government was conducted as per the direction of the Governor. It is a shame that Chief Minister Palaniswami was not even aware of the basic facts. If there is a no-confidence motion, the DMK will take a decision depending on the situation,” he said.

Mr. Stalin said he was not interested in commenting on the war of words between the AIADMK factions, saying it was an intra-party affair. “We do not like peeping into the neighbour’s house,” he said.
