KODAIKANAL
All efforts would be taken to improve infrastructure in Kodaikanal to enhance facilities for the convenience of tourists visiting the hill station, said Union Minister of State for Tourism Mahesh Sharma.
Talking to media persons after taking part in a special meeting with revenue and tourism officials here on Sunday, Mr. Sharma said steps would be taken to lay a road connecting Munnar and Kodaikanal to enhance tourist flow to Kodaikanal. Talks between high-level officials of Kerala and Tamil Nadu were at a final stage. All measures would be taken to implement the project, he said.
A feasibility study was on to commission a rope car connecting Kodaikanal hill and Palani temple. “We need to do a detailed study because the distance between the two spots was huge. It would take some time to finalise the study and chalk out an action plan,” he added.
To ease traffic congestion in Kodaikanal during peak season, plans were on to commission a multi-level car parking facility in the town. Introduction of helicopter service was also in pipeline, he added.
Stating that there was a widespread protest by farmers and public over creating a wildlife sanctuary, he said further study was on to draw plans to develop the sanctuary without affecting tourism and agricultural activities on the hill.
