Sree Kerala Varma College, one of the leading colleges in central Kerala, is celebrating its 70th anniversary.
Founded in 1947 by Rama Varma XV, the Maharaja of erstwhile Kochi state, the college is currently governed by the Cochin Devaswom Board.
The three-day celebrations began on Friday with floral tributes at the Rama Varma Memorial on the campus.
Cochin Devaswom Board president M.K. Sudharsan inaugurated the function. Kerala Sahitya Akademi Secretary K.P. Mohanan delivered key note address.
Sree Kerala Varma Awards were given to the alumni, who had excelled in various fields.
Various cultural programmes were conducted in the evening.
Agriculture Minister V.S. Sunil Kumar, an alumnus of the college, inaugurated the Kerala Varma Sapthathi Puraskara Samadharanam function on Saturday. In all, 12 eminent former students were presented the awards.
Alumni meeting and former teachers’ meeting were held.
Education Minister C. Ravindranath will inaugurate the education conference on Sunday. Poet C. Ravunni will preside over a kaviyarangu. Mediaperson John Brittas will inaugurate a cultural meeting on Sunday afternoon.
