Fresh gunfight erupted in Shopian's Awneera village where an encounter had started on Saturday evening

Two soldiers were killed and six security personnel were injured in two separate encounters in Kashmir.

A police spokesman said two policemen and an Army man were injured after militants attacked security personnel during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Hajin area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir early on Sunday.

Meanwhile, fresh gunfight erupted in Shopian's Awneera village where an encounter had started on Saturday evening.

“As security personnel tried to zero in on the houses damaged in the gunfight, militants opened fire again,” said a policeman.

A police official said a body was lying at the encounter site. “We are not able to retrieve any body so far,” said the spokesman. Militants seem to be hiding in a nearby house.

Two Army personnel were killed and three others, including an officer, were injured during the initial phase of the gunfight late on Saturday night.

A large group of militants was believed to have met in the village to plan subversive activity on August 15.
