In another incident of stalking in Delhi University, Anamika (name changed), recounted the horror she faced when she was followed constantly all around the campus.
“Owing to long study hours we generally spent a lot of time in our college library. My friends and I were one of the last few to leave college every day. One day in the canteen, where I was sitting with a friend, I saw this person staring at me in the worst manner possible. We immediately decided to leave the canteen,” she said.
No confrontation
Their decision to avoid a confrontation, however, did not help. “To our shock we saw the man follow us out of the canteen. We hurriedly entered the library thinking that it would be safer there as outsiders were not allowed inside. However, he followed us inside and even brushed his hands against mine.”
Anamika raised the matter with the library authorities. “The library authorities tracked down the guy and barred him from entering the campus. However, my biggest concern was the fact that he had seen me. I was scared to an extent that for the next few months I could not step out alone,” she said.
Cautious approach
On her decision to not file a complaint with the police, she said, “My parents were extremely worried as I am an outstation student. With the increasing number of attacks on women, we decided against taking the matter forward and take steps to be alert at all times,” she said.
