This native of Javagal, who repairs bags for a living, sure believes in wearing his patriotic streak on his sleeve. B S Basavaraju has shown his patriotism towards the country by sewing a 1,500 ft tri-colour to be displayed on Independence Day on Tuesday.

Basavaraju is known for sewing huge flags for free for a couple of years. These flags are displayed during the Republic and Independence Day celebrations.

This Independence Day, Basavaraju said, he was inspired to do something for the country after he heard stories about patriotic heroes from a bus driver.

Various organisations of the taluk sponsored funds to purchase fabric for the flag, he said.

He is also geared up to sew a 2,250 ft tri-colour on the premises of the government higher primary school to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.
