American e-commerce giant Amazon hosted Great Indian Sale in India August 9 to 12. The sale concluded on a never before high, setting new bench marks in sales and brand performance. According to Amazon, the Great Indian Sale is the company’s biggest shopping event of 2017.
Amazon announced the achievements and sales data of the sale. According to the data, customers especially enjoyed big deals from big brands across Smartphones, TVs & Appliances and Fashion, with old-product exchange and No-Cost EMI being particular hits.

Overall scale, Reach and customer response
Day 1 of Great Indian sale is the biggest day for Amazon.in in 2017, at the back of rapid momentum of 88% growth for Q2. The Amazon Shopping app continues to remain as the most downloaded shopping app in the country.
Amazon sees 2X growth in customers from Tier 2, 3 and below geographies. The company also acquired new customers from areas like Tinsukia, Banka, Purnia and Karbi Anglong.
Day 1 saw the biggest sales of Smartphones in 2017
Day 1 of the sale saw the biggest sales of smartphones in 2017, Apple saw 40X growth; Samsung (13X), Honor (10X), Moto & Lenovo (9X), BlackBerry (10X) and OnePlus (6X) Redmi 4A sold out under 1 minute.
During the sale Amazon also featured exclusive new launches from:
- BlackBerry - KEYone (Limited Edition Black)
- OnePlus 5 Soft Gold
- Apple 6 32 GB Gold – Premiering first on Amazon.in
- LG Q6 – the first ever mobile with 18:9 screen ratio priced under Rs 20,000
6X growth in the sale of Storage Devices with Samsung, WD and Seagate featuring among the top sellers; Samsung EVO Plus Memory card and Seagate Hard Drives were key bestsellers.
Prime Exclusive offer on Fitbit Charge 2 Wireless Activity Tracker and Sleep Wristband sold out in less than 2 hours.
TVs & Large Appliances grow 10X;
Key exclusive brands Sanyo and BPL grew by over 25X. TCL, an Amazon Exclusive – introduced 3 new models under their UHD (4K) Android TV range with a Buy One TV Get One TV offers for Prime members. The top model of the range (65” 4K TV worth Rs 1.1 Lakh) sold out by Day 2.
ACs grew by 4X, Refrigerators grew by 7X and Washing machines grew by 8X; Bosch, Haier, BPL & LG were category bestsellers.
Exchange schemes and EMI were a hit with customers with a 2.5X increase in the number of exchange orders and 10X increase in No cost EMI orders in Large Appliances.
No cost credit card EMI offers with 3/6/9/12 month tenures across appliances range saw 1 out of 3 customers using this service to make their Large Appliances purchase even more affordable.
Fashion & Accessories were the most sold
The majority of top fashion brands witnessed upwards of 5X growth. Brands like Marks & Spencer, Levis, Titan, Gap, Redtape grew upwards of 5X. Men’s Shoes and Men’s Apparel grew 4X, Kids Apparel (3X), Luggage(3X), Handbags(3X), Kids Shoes (3X) and Women’s Shoes(3X).
Amazon Prime Continues to be top selling product
Prime continues to be the top selling product. Prime is a clear customer favorite with unlimited free expedited shipping, early and exclusive access to deals, and unlimited video streaming for a low annual promotion fee of Rs 499.
With Prime continuing to be our top selling product and Amazon Pay seeing 20X growth in top ups, customers continue to vote for the trust and convenience of shopping on Amazon.in.
