Tamil Nadu, which joined the Ujwal DISCOM Assurance Yojana (UDAY) of the Central government early this year, has not reported improvement in terms of several operational parameters, according to the second volume of the Economic Survey, which was tabled in Parliament on Friday.

Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh have been clubbed with Tamil Nadu in this regard. The parameters against which the performance of Tamil Nadu and many others were assessed included electricity access to unconnected households, distribution of LED bulbs under a national programme – Unnat Jyoti by Affordable LEDs for All (UJALA) – and metering of distribution transformers (DT) and feeders, both in rural and urban areas.

AP, Karnataka progress

Among the States which have shown progress are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Aimed at financial turnaround of power distribution companies, UDAY is being implemented in 26 States and one Union Territory.

Too early to say: Tangedco

A senior official of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) says it is too early to measure the performance of the corporation in terms of the parameters, as UDAY has been implemented only since January.
