The Kannada Development Authority (KDA) team, led by its president S G Siddaramaiah, on Thursday visited Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra and Press Information Bureau in the city and carried out a reality check on the use of Kannada in official transactions.

The KDA team was happy with the usage of Kannada in GKVK. The authority demanded the management to change the GKVK website to Kannada, and also publish all advertisements in the local language. They gave the GKVK management two months time to switch to Kannada.

Later in the day, the team visited Press Information Bureau (PIB). KDA president Siddaramaiah said that this was the second time they were visiting PIB. The KDA had earlier visited PIB in April, and had directed them to ensure that all communication is in Kannada and not English.

He expressed his displeasure over the bureau for not implementing the directive issued by KDA.

A senior PIB official said that they deal with various departments, and the official transactions in Kannada is not possible always.
