CBI arrests IB official, Police Inspector for graft

The on Friday arrested an Intelligence Bureau (IB) official and a Police Inspector as part of its probe into an alleged racket of transfers and postings of servants, an official said.

The IB official Kameshwar, known by his first name, and Inspector Banay Singh Meena were arrested two days after the registered an FIR against them and subsequently nabbed two private persons -- Rajan Kumar and Arun Tiwari -- in connection with the case.

Both Kumar and Tiwari are currently under six-day custody.

According to FIR, Meena, who is a posted in Police's security wing, conspired with Tiwari for "ensuring undue favours related to transfers and postings of public servants" and paid him a bribe of Rs 10 lakh which was to be delivered to Rajan Kumar in "coordination" with the IB official.

It was decided that Rajan Kumar, who claimed to be a senior functionary, will keep Rs 7 lakh and Tiwari will get Rs 3 lakh, the FIR said.

In connection with the case, the on Thursday conducted searches at four locations in and recovered Rs 1.6 crore in cash as well as several rubber stamps of various Ministries and fake letterheads of several officials from the residences of the accused.
