Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu set the stage for the development of world-class health care infrastructure in the capital city Amaravati by laying the foundation for the BRS Medicity to be developed by the Abu Dhabi-based BRS Ventures and Holdings Pvt. Ltd. (BVHPL), at Dondapadu in Guntur district on Thursday.
The Medicity is an integrated facility comprising a medical university, a teaching hospital and other establishments, including top-notch R&D institutions.
A sum of $1.80 billion is being invested in it by B. Raghuram Shetty, the founder of BVHPL, which signed a MoU with the A.P. Economic Development Board (AP-EDB) during the CII-Partnership Summit in January 2017. While laying the foundation, Mr. Naidu said the Medicity would help the government in delivering the best of health care services to the people of Amaravati who magnanimously parted with about 33,000 acres under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).
Focus on infra
He stated that nearly ₹15,300 crore would be spent on the LPS infrastructure, and he gave priority to health and education to improve the living standards of the people in the Vijayawada-Guntur region which would be transformed into a medical hub. Students aspiring to study medicine would have the best of facilities in BRS Medicity.
Mr. Naidu said the All India Institute of Medical Sciences coming up at Mangalagiri and the Indo-UK Institute of Health would give a fillip to the health care sector in Amaravati. Mr. Shetty said the Medicity would bring to life a vision of an integrated, patient-centric, healthcare development model in Amaravati. More than 30 departments would offer a wide spectrum of medical treatments.
Neopharma plans
He announced that the Neopharma, of which he is the Executive Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, contemplated setting up a manufacturing facility and medical equipment-making unit and embarking on other ventures that would make Amaravati a node for medical and wellness tourism. Minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, Tadikonda MLA T. Sravan Kumar, Principal Secretary (Infrastructure and Investment and CRDA) Ajay Jain, EDB CEO J. Krishna Kishore and CRDA Commissioner Ch. Sreedhar were among those present.
