Filling potholes is definitely not part of their job profile, but these traffic policemen attached to R.T. Nagar station did it out of concern for commuters on Friday, after civic authorities failed to pay heed to his requests. The potholes had been causing major traffic jams in Sanjaynagar Main road.
Speaking to The Hindu, Firoz Khan, inspector, said despite repeated reminders to the authorities concerned about the need to fill the potholes, no action was taken. So, we decided to take on the job ourselves.
On Friday morning, a batch of traffic constables cleaned the area and filled the pothole with debris and cement.
We pooled in money for the material and also hired a construction labourer to help finish the job, Mr. Khan added .
Motorists regularly using the road thanked the police. “The potholes on the main road had turned into a nightmare for motorists and was slowing down traffic. Now, thanks to the traffic police the road looks good,” said B. Ramesh Byrappa, a resident.
