She was unable to reach cops, helpline

A 25-year-old woman on a two-wheeler, who was stalked for nearly three km by two men in a white sedan on Old Delhi-Gurugram Road here on Monday night, had made repeated calls to the Police Control Room and the women’s helpline but failed to get any help.

Both numbers remained continuously engaged.

Incidentally, she did not come across any PCR van or policemen while she was being chased.

‘Numbers engaged’

“She desperately tried the PCR and women’s helpline numbers while being chased by two men but both the numbers remained engaged. It was on reaching home that the call went through to the PCR and she narrated the entire incident. However, she was lucky that nothing happened to her,” said the woman’s fiancé.

The woman, meanwhile, kept speaking to her fiancé all along. He, too, kept calling the PCR but could not get through.

The woman, who works with a private firm in Udyog Vihar, sought help from a couple of auto-rickshaw drivers, but they did not respond.

It was on reaching Atul Kataria Chowk that the woman spotted an elderly couple in a car and flagged them down.

“She told them about her ordeal and requested them to drive next to her and help her reach home. They had barely gone a few metres, when the duo blocked their way and hurled abuses at them. The couple left after that,” the woman’s fiancé, a businessman, said.

A resident of Rajiv Nagar near Atul Kataria Chowk, the woman spoke briefly to the accused and threatened to call the police, but that did not deter them.

The two, however, drove away when she turned into one of the lanes in Rajiv Nagar.

Late to leave

The victim works the night shift and usually leaves at 7 a.m., but she had to leave late on Monday as she was unwell. At Sector 17-18 near IFFCO Chowk, she found a man sleeping in a car parked on the roadside while another man standing nearby tried to flag her down. She did not stop.

After travelling around a km she discovered that she was being stalked. “The two drunken men made obscene gestures and tried to stop her,” said her fiancé.

The police have accessed closed circuit television footage and appealed to the elderly couple to share details of the incident.

Another incident

In another incident, a woman was allegedly abducted and gangraped by three young men in a car outside her paying guest accommodation in Sukhrali village early on May 13, a few minutes after she was dropped outside the building by her male friend.
