Malayala Samaja plans grand Onam celebrations

Hindu Malayala Samaja in the taluk has decided to celebrate Onam festival in a grand manner at Vokkaligara Kalyana Mantapa here on October 8.

Festival committee chairman V M Vijaya told reporters that various contests have been organised as part of the festival. The contests inlcudepookalam and dance for school students, besides talent award for those students who have excelled in SSLC and PUC exams.

The celebration will start at 9 am with a procession from Mutthappa Temple near Kakkehole. A troupe of chande artistes from Kerala will perform singarimela.

The programme will be followed by cultural programmes by children of the community.

Taluk Hindu Malayala Samaja president P D Prakash, office-bearers Ayyappa, Igur Shivdas, Gangadhar, Rajan and advisor Malambi Gangadhar and women’s wing president Sujatha were present.
