Maliwal notice to SHO on G.B. Road case

Following the rescue of two minor Nepali girls from a brothel at G.B. Road last month, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has now slapped rape charges against the accused in the case. Charges for collusion were also slapped against a police officer who had allegedly warned the brothel owner before the raids could take place.

Notice to police

DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal sent a notice to the station house officer of Kamla Market police station asking for the inclusion of relevant sections in the FIR filed by them and demanded action against the particular officer.

DCW said that one of the girls, in her statement, had said they had sent a note to the police asking for help through a customer. However, on receiving the notice, one of the policemen allegedly visited the brothel and warned the owner.

It was then that the owner tried to move the trafficked girls to Majnu Ka Tilla. The girls had managed to escape during the transfer.

Accusing the police of colluding with the brothel owners, Ms. Maliwal said, “My initial theory of trafficking and flesh trade at G.B. Road flourishing with the involvement of the police has been reinforced with this case. It is evident that the police are working with the brothel owners. I will make sure that trafficking of minor girls is shut at G.B. Road, which is the hub of human trafficking.”

Section 373 added

In its reply to DCW, the Delhi Police stated that it has added Section 373, which includes buying minors for purposes of prostitution, to the FIR. The other Sections that have been added are Sections 190 and 120b of the IPC.

“It is also informed that the probe continues and the search for the remaining accused is on,” said the Delhi Police.
