Chennai: The two AIADMK factions led by O Panneerselvam and Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi Palaniswami met today amidst speculations about the merger talks.
The two leaders will meet in the party headquarters in Chennai.
According to sources, the meeting decided that VK Sasikala's appointment was "temporary" and her nephew TTV Dinakaran also did not belong to the post of her deputy. This they claimed was against the rules.
According to sources, AIADMK leaders Palaniswai and OPS and likely to meet this week and finalise the merger plans. They are currently headed to Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the new Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.
The two factions have been fighting for a long time for the party symbol - two leaves - that is being heard by the Election Commission. Fighting under one symbol will hep both the parties in the upcoming local body elections in Tamil Nadu.
The OPS camp has demanded for Sasikala's expulsion from the party and has also asked for the chief's position and CM chair for O Panneerselvam.
Sasikala, close aide of former CM and late J Jayalalithaa is serving a four-year jail term in Bengaluru Central jail for corruption.
