Had knifed a man for his cell phone

Two youths were arrested and three juveniles apprehended for allegedly stabbing a man to death in north-west Delhi’s Mangolpuri late last month in order to rob his mobile phone, the police said on Wednesday

Ram Babu, who was stabbed near Mangolpuri E block on July 27, was declared dead on arrival at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital.

The police said the accused were nabbed after Mr. Babu’s mobile phone was traced to Q block in the area. A minor was apprehended for the crime. He later revealed the names of Shrikesh and Himanshu, both 19-year-old, and the names of two other minors.

“During interrogation, they admitted they were friends and spent evenings together. On July 27 they were at Sanjay Park when they saw the victim’s costly mobile phone,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) M.N. Tiwari.

Knife recovered

Mr. Tiwari said the accused initiated a quarrel with Mr. Babu to rob his phone. However, the fight got out of hand and Shrikesh allegedly stabbed Mr. Babu. The accused fled the spot with the victim’s phone.

The police said Shrikesh is an accused in another theft case too.

“Besides the victim’s mobile phone, we have recovered a bloodstained knife from the accused,” the police said.
