Vikas Barala, son of Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala, has reportedly confessed to the Chandigarh police that he was chasing Varnika Kundu on the night of August 4, news agency ANI reported.

Barala, along with his friend, co-accused Ashish Kumar, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of attempted kidnapping. The two will appear before the court on Thursday.
The police claims there is enough evidence in the form of CCTV footage and eyewitness testimonies to prove the charges against the duo. Senior police officer Tejinder Luthra further said that the force had received "many details" in the past four days.
"We welcome any evidence but we now have sufficient evidence in the case... Everything under the sun will be done to ensure justice," Luthra told NDTV.
While on the one hand, media scrutiny and public pressure ensured that the police don't go soft on the politically influential accused, on the other, the Kundu family still claims that the Balaras are trying to make the matter go away quietly. On Tuesday, Varnika's father, Virender Kundu, told The Indian Express that ever since they filed the police complaint, he has received several calls from Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala.
"I did not take any of his calls because I knew what he was going to say," he said.
The bureaucrat further also claims that he received calls from Krishan Dhull, a BJP spokesperson he knows, to settle the matter on behalf of the two men.
Considering Chandigarh is a union territory and BJP is the ruling party in the country, Virender Kundu is well aware of the repercussions his family might have to face for taking on one of their top leaders' son. "Till the time the BJP is in power, they will not forget. This action by me will be taken as an act against the party... I have told my daughters to be careful when they go out... Someone could even slip a drug packet into their purse just to trap them," he said
The incident came to light when Varnika Kundu shared her horrifying experience in Facebook post, accusing the drunk duo of driving recklessly behind her, trying to ram into her car, cutting her off at lights and even attempting to forcefully enter her car.
"I'm also lucky because I'm not lying raped and murdered in a ditch somewhere," her post read.
