For killing his employer’s father

A Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment, holding him guilty of murdering his former employer’s father.

The court convicted Mukesh Kumar (34), a driver on daily wages, of killing Devender Marwah (68) and robbing him of jewellery which was later recovered from his room.

“The offence committed by the convict was not a crime of passion and certainly deserves severe punishment. However, as per established propositions of law, the present case does not fall within the purview of rarest of rare case,” Additional Sessions judge Kuldeep Narayan said.

“I am of the considered opinion that the prosecution succeeded in establishing that it was Kumar who caused fatal injuries on Marwah on December 4, 2009, while he was present at his Rajouri Garden house by use of an iron rod,” he said.

Fine imposed

However, in view of the convict’s poor financial background, the court took a lenient view while imposing a fine on him. It imposed a fine of ₹ 7,000 on him.

According to the prosecution, Marwah was found dead on the first floor of his house. The murder was discovered when Marwah’s son sent a maid to serve him dinner. When he failed to open the door, the family broke open the door and found his body.

The prosecution said that Kumar had claimed in his disclosure statement that Marwah often asked him to bring his wife to him or repay the loan. However, the prosecution could not prove the motive.
