Heavy rain, accompanied by thunder, lashed Salem city and other parts of the district for about an hour on Wednesday evening. The downpour inundated many low lying areas and affected the movement of vehicles on the arterial roads in the city.
The hill station of Yercaud received heavy rain. The rainfall which commenced at 5 p.m. continued even after 8 p.m. Yercaud town and other villages on the hill station went without power.
The rural town of Vazhappadi experienced widespread rainfall for about an hour, affecting the normal life of the people. The towns of Sankagiri and Attur too experienced intermittent showers.
Various part of Salem district experienced intermittent showers in the early hour of Wednesday too.
Veeraganur recorded the maximum rainfall of 12.4 mm in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by Aanaimaduvu 11 mm.; Thammampatti 9.2; Gangavalli 7.2; Attur 4.6; Pethanayakkanpalayam 2; Yercaud, Vazhappadi and Edappadi 1 mm each.
