Senior curator from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, John Guy, visited the Cultural Centre of Vijayawada and Amaravati on Wednesday. Dr. Guy’s visit to Andhra Pradesh is in connection with an exhibition on Buddhist heritage of Andhradesa, as part of the 150th Foundation Day celebrations of the museum scheduled in 2020.
CCVA CEO Sivanagi Reddy briefed him about the activities of centre, explaining the importance of more than 200 Buddhist sites in the State in different forms including art, architecture, relic caskets and inscriptions to showcase in the proposed exhibition in New York.
Dr. Guy was impressed by CCVA’s ‘Preserve Heritage for Posterity’ campaign aimed at sensitising the local communities on the need to safeguard the heritage properties. Author of books like Andhra Nagari and Andhra Patham Sai Papineni, CEO of Malaxmi Property Ventures Pvt. Ltd Sandeep Mandava and Chimpiraiah were present.
