A suspected explosive was found in the toilet of a coach of Amritsar-bound Akaltakht Express at around 1 am on Thursday. The suspected bomb was noticed by a passenger who informed the coach attendant, and the train was stopped at Akbarganj station in Amethi district and bomb disposal squad called.
ADG Railway VK Maurya said the recovered explosive was not a fully-assembled bomb and had no timer or device. He said it was not in a condition to explode.
“It appears to be some explosive like the ones used in crackers. It is not one of known explosives. Two lighters were also kept there. It appears to be more of an attempt to cause mischief by someone to grab attention. We are conducting investigation and thorough examination is being done,” he said.
A letter written in Hindi was also found with it saying India will have to pay for the “murder of Dujana”, a reference to killed terrorist Abu Dujana. The letter states it was written by Indian Mujahideen.
Maurya said the train starts from Howrah so it could be any station from there where the suspected explosive could have been placed.

Amethi district magistrate Yogesh Kumar said the bomb had no ignition and there was no chance of its explosion. He said the letter appears to be very old.
Kumar said the whole train was checked.
Northern Railway spokesperson Neeraj Sharma said the train was stopped at 1.05 am and two coaches B3 and B4 were vacated after the explosive was discovered in the toilet of coach B3.
