Stamp on face incident: jail guard suspended

Press Trust of India  |  Bhopal

A woman guard was today suspended in connection with an incident where the faces of two minors, who were visiting their jailed relative, were stamped with entry seals at the Central Jail on Raksha Bandhan day.

Visitors' hands are stamped with entry seals so as to distinguish them from jail inmates, but the two children were stamped on the face.

"We have suspended prison guard Rashmi Prajapati," Director General (Jails) Sanjay Chowdhary said.

"It was found that she stamped their faces with entry seals, but it was done without any malicious intention," he said, adding that a departmental inquiry has been ordered.

The State Human Rights Commission had taken notice of the incident, after photographs of two minors, one of them a girl, bearing entry stamps on faces were published by some newspapers.

Central Jail's Superintendent Nargave had said the stamping of faces may have taken place due to rush of visitors that day.
