The Muvattupuzha Vigilance Court has ordered a Quick Verification of the alleged amassment of wealth by the Chairman of the Piravom Municipality, Sabu K. Jacob.
Considering a petition by E.J. Thomas, a Piravom native, the court directed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) Special Cell, Ernakulam, to conduct Quick Verification and file a report by September 30.
The petitioner alleged that Mr. Sabu, while serving as the panchayat president of Piravom from 2010 to 2015, amassed a wealth of ₹5 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income. He was later elected as the municipal chairman in 2015.
Pointing out that a fuel station under his ownership was the sole source of income for Mr. Sabu, the petitioner alleged that Mr. Sabu diverted ₹3.90 crore from a fund of ₹13 crore allocated by the Central government for widening the road from Amballoor to Monnipally.
