Yakshagana artiste to be honoured tomorrow

Tulukoota Udupi will organise an award ceremony in the memorial of veteran Yakshagana artiste Malpe Ramadass Samaga on August 11 at Hotel Kidiyur.
Tulukoota president B Jayakar Shetty Indrali said the award would be given away to veteran Yakshagana artiste Pundarikaksha Upadhyaya. The award ceremony would comprise screening of Tulu Yakshagana ‘Veerachitha Koti Chennayya’. The district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj will give away the awards.
The Yakshagana artiste Pundarikaksha Upadhyaya is an expert in both Badaguthittu and Tenkuthittu styles of Yakshagana and has contributed immensely in the field by working for 50 years with different Melas. He was a part of the Idagunji Mela, the Saligrama Mela, the Mangaluru Mela and the Katil Mela. He also played the roles like Sridevi, Draupadi, Subhadre, Damayanti and Chandramati.
Indrali said that on August 15, 23rd Paniyadi Tulu novel award will be given away to veteran writer H Sacchidanda Hegde who wrote the Tulu volume ‘Balumadethi’. Communal facts are highlighted in the novel, where the author tries to elaborate on the caste and religious features and limitations.
