KOZHIKODE: The regulation of all train services in the Kozhikode-Kannur section will be lifted on Wednesday.

This follows the completion of track renewal work between Thalassery and Mahe; Etakkot and Thalassery, and Kannur South and Etakkot. The Palakkad Division has thus achieved 32 km of track renewal,w instead of 25 km as planned initially, according to a statement issued here on Tuesday.

Accordingly, Train No. 56324 / 56323 Mangaluru-Coimbatore-Mangaluru Fast Passenger, Train No. 22609 Mangaluru-Coimbatore Inter City Express, Train No. 16606 Nagercoil-Mangaluru Eranad Express, and Train No. 12201 Lokmanya Tilak-Kochuveli Garibrath will run according to their scheduled timings from Wednesday. The Complete Track Renewal (CTR) work between Kozhikode and Kannur was sanctioned to remove and replace old and weak rails from the track. Trains were being run with restricted speed in the section identified with weak and corroded rails.

The work was carried out under the supervision of eight track machine engineers and four maintenance engineers. They were assisted by 20 to 30 railway staffers and 40 to 50 contract staffers. The cost of CTR work is around ₹1.9 crore including the cost of rails, sleepers, and the machine and men employed. The Palakkad Division is planning to take up track renewal of another 38 km in the Kozhikode-Kannur section this financial year.

The advantages include replacing corroded rails of track and restoring the speed of trains to 110 kmph.
