Life Hack: Kill Thousands of Mosquitoes With One Fan

Thankfully, Dan Rojas of Green Power Science has come up with an ingenious, pesticide-free way of eliminating the little bugs. Watch Rojas describe below how he killed 8,000 mosquitoes in just two nights, and then check out what you'll need for your own set-up.

What You'll Need

• high-powered fan
• screen material
• a bottle of seltzer water
• a few rare-earth magnets
• solution of half rubbing alcohol, half water

How It Works

1. Cover the back of your fan with regular screen material. Rojas recommends a MaxxAir drum fan that you can find at normal hardware stores.
2. Use rare-earth magnets to anchor the screen in place.
3. Turn the fan on. The power of the fan sucking in air is strong enough to trap nearby mosquitoes against the screen material.
4. Place a partially opened bottle of seltzer water behind the fan. The carbon dioxide released from the seltzer attracts the mosquitoes to fly towards the trap.
5. After a day or so, spray the screen with your diluted alcohol solution. This will kill any remaining living mosquitoes.
6. Instead of throwing the dead bugs out, you can return them to nature. The alcohol will soon evaporate, making the mosquitoes safe to be eaten by other animals.
