Picture this: You're out on your deck, enjoying a few cold ones with friends as the sun sets. It seems like a perfect summer night until you're suddenly attacked by blood-sucking, disease-ridden animals.

No, this isn't a cheesy horror flick. It's what happens every time you come into contact with mosquitoes. And the itchy bug bites are the least of your worries. West Nile Virus, malaria, and Zika are among the many diseases you open yourself up to when skeeters attack.

Thankfully, Dan Rojas of Green Power Science has come up with an ingenious, pesticide-free way of eliminating the little bugs. Watch Rojas describe below how he killed 8,000 mosquitoes in just two nights, and then check out what you'll need for your own set-up.

What You'll Need

How It Works

  1. Cover the back of your fan with regular screen material. Rojas recommends a MaxxAir drum fan that you can find at normal hardware stores.
  2. Use rare-earth magnets to anchor the screen in place.
  3. Turn the fan on. The power of the fan sucking in air is strong enough to trap nearby mosquitoes against the screen material.
  4. Place a partially opened bottle of seltzer water behind the fan. The carbon dioxide released from the seltzer attracts the mosquitoes to fly towards the trap.
  5. After a day or so, spray the screen with your diluted alcohol solution. This will kill any remaining living mosquitoes.
  6. Instead of throwing the dead bugs out, you can return them to nature. The alcohol will soon evaporate, making the mosquitoes safe to be eaten by other animals.
