In this park, trees turn into billboards for CM’s visit

Despite the BBMP’s stated support to the Kill Bill campaign, banners with photographs of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other Congress leaders flooded the areas visited by the CM as part of his city rounds on Saturday. This includes Swabhimani Park, a tree park being developed in HSR Layout, where the posters remained attached to tree trunks until Tuesday.

The park has been developed with two kalyanis and a variety of tree species. “Even though the local leaders had promised to remove the banners, this has not been done,” said Zahid, a resident of HSR Layout. The area is dotted with posters of leaders from all major parties. Satish Reddy, MLA for Bommanahalli, said he had requested the BBMP to remove all posters belonging to any political party. “Residents have been threatened by party workers when they try to remove the posters,” he said. In the last council meeting, Govindraj Nagar corporator Umesh Shetty had raised the issue of banners and hoardings causing visual pollution and councillors, cutting across party lines, had supported his plea to remove any such form of visual pollution.
