The Police yesterday sent the viscera samples of the 63-year-old woman, whose skeletal remains were found in her flat in suburban Andheri on Sunday, to the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) here for chemical analysis after her postmortem report remained inconclusive.
The highly-decomposed body of the woman, identified as Asha Sahani, was found in her 10th flat by her son.
A senior police official said no proof of any foul play has come to fore so far.
"The postmortem report couldn't establish the cause of her death. The hospital has given us her viscera samples which were sent to the FSL at Kalina here for chemical analysis," he said.
Sahani had been living alone in her apartment in Lokhandwala Complex since the death of her husband in 2013. Her only son, Rituraj, is a software engineer and is settled in the US.
On Sunday, Rituraj came to Mumbai and went to his flat when he found that his mother was not responding to the door bell.
After he got the door of the flat reopened with the help of a key-maker, Rituraj found the decomposed body of his mother.
Oshiwara police have registered a case of accidental death.
According to police, Rituraj had last spoken to his mother in April 2016.
Another police official said Rituraj had filed a missing person's complaint through an email in October last year, but didn't bother to take any follow-up.
Another official said the police are investigating why Rituraj didn't visit the police station after lodging that complaint.
Some residents of the building told the police that they didn't get any foul smell from Sahni's flat and that the woman had stopped talking to them since her husband's death four years ago.
