At least 10 dengue cases have been reported in Puducherry so far. Of them, two are under observation and treated at hospital, a senior official in the Department of Health and Family Welfare said.

Confirmation tests and tertiary treatment have been done at the Government General Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Women and Children’s Hospital, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research.

Awareness drive

The department is taking up preventive measures and creating awareness in both residential and semi-residential areas. “Empty plots used by the public to dump garbage and construction sites are turning into breeding grounds for mosquitoes. We have identified three hotspots where mosquito density is high in Kirumambakkam, Gorimedu and surrounding areas. We have advised people to observe a ‘dry day’ once a week to keep their home and surroundings clean and dry,” the official said.

Vaiyapuri Manikandan, MLA, who is down with dengue fever, said garbage waste has been left uncleared for a long time in Muthialpet residential area. “Many people in this area are falling sick,” he said.
