Real Madrid haven’t had the greatest of pre-seasons while Manchester United have injury concerns to deal with. Both teams have their positives and negatives as they enter the UEFA Super Cup to be played for the first time in Macedonia. A notable absentee for Real Madrid will be Cristiano Ronaldo who hasn’t trained enough but he could be thrown on later if required. For United, there is no Eric Bailly, Phil Jones (both suspended), Marcos Rojo (knee), Luke Shaw (foot), Ashley Young (hamstring). Follow live scores and updates from Real Madrid vs Manchester United in UEFA Super Cup.
Real Madrid vs Manchester United Live Score and Updates, UEFA Super Cup: Real Madrid’s Super Cup record: W3, L2. Manchester United’s record: W1 L2
91′ Fellaini gets his heavily bandaged head to the ball to test Navas. On the other end, Lucas Vazquez tip toes and trickles past two Manchester United defenders to square the ball for Asensio who gets a first time right foot shot. De Gea is equal to the brilliance to deny the Real Madrid midfielder
90′ Seven minutes added on
86′ Ronaldo’s first real involvement of the game is earning Real Madrid a free kick. Goes down in a heap at the half way line. Affords a little smile and says “falta (foul)”
84′ Carvajal is booked for bringing down Mkhitaryan. Seems unfair on second looking with Dani getting little on it. He’s booked due to it. But nothing from the resultant free kick.
81′ REAL MADRID CHANGE: One man both teams wanted to see – in one way or the other. Ronaldo comes on to play the final ten minutes
81′ CHANCE! Quick passing by Manchester United in the Real Madrid third and the ball comes to Rashford who has the time and space to score but his left footed shot is more of a scruff and Navas gets a touch to it even as the ball was going wide from underneath him. On the counter, Benzema runs near length of the pitch and tries to trick Lindelof but the shot is blocked to go for a corner.
75′ We have our cooling break earlier than the 75th minute. Real Madrid make a double change in the meanwhile. Lucas Vazquez and Asensio come on to replace Isco and Bale. Sergio Ramos and Fellaini with a clash of heads and both look in bad shape. The Belgian is bleeding from the top of the head and needs a new shirt. Ramos looks okay. He’s up and moving around easily
62′ GOAL!! Romelu Lukaku opens his Manchester United account and reduces the deficit. A lethal left footed shot by Nemanja Matic to test Navas and the ball is spilled with Lukaku on hand to tap the ball home. He wasn’t going to miss such a chance twice, was he? And he joins an illustrious list
60′ Real Madrid split Manchester United defence into pieces. Quick passing, one-two’s, give and go’s and final ball comes to Bale who, with little angle to play for, smacks the underside of the crossbar. Lucky for United there
55′ MANCHESTER UNITED CHANGE: Second change of the evening by Jose Mourinho. Fellaini replaces Herrera
54′ HUGE CHANCE! Paul Pogba is unmarked in the centre of the area to head the cross from Mkhitaryan. Navas gets down to deny the Frenchman but the rebound falls to Lukaku who from six yards out sends his effort over. Should have converted that
0126 hrs IST: GOAL!! ISCO MAKES IT 2-0 TO REAL MADRID! Lovely little one-two with Gareth Bale near the edge of the box, continues his run and slots into the bottom right corner past De Gea.
0123 hrs IST:Chance for Marcelo who makes the most of a United defensive lapse. Runs into the box and has his shot blocked which hits the side netting. Nothing from the resultant corner, though.
0121 hrs IST: Second half underway in Macedonia. Real Madrid get the ball rolling. And a substitution from Manchester United. Marcus Rashford comes on to replace Jesse Lingard. Kroos with a left footed shot from distance and De Gea dives full length to his right to deny the German
0103 hrs IST: HALF TIME! At the break, Real Madrid lead 1-0 in Macedonia. A 24th minute goal from Casemiro, just minutes after he had rattled the crossbar.
0101 hrs IST: Lukaku finally climbs higher than a Real Madrid player to get a shot on goal and test Navas. First shot on target for Manchester United comes into the stoppage time.
0100 hrs IST: First booking of the evening and Lingard is yellow carded for late challenge on Isco. In another move, Modric darts down the round but stumbles on Matic’s physical presence, ball comes to Benzema and his effort is saved by De Gea.
0052 hrs IST: We’ve had a cooling break on the 30th minute mark due to excessive heat in Skopje. There will be one after 75 minutes too. Play underway since and Manchester United getting few yards in the final third but not testing Navas
0040 hrs IST: 24′ CASEMIRO PUTS REAL MADRID AHEAD! For 66th consecutive game, Real Madrid have scored. A little dink by Carvajal into the box and Casemiro times his run fairly well to beat the marker and slides in the ball past De Gea with a well converted left footed shot. Worth pointing out that left foot is his weaker foot.
0033 hrs IST: 16′ Casemiro hits the crossbar! Thundering header from the Brazilian as he came down to meet a Kroos corner but relief for United as the ball comes off the woodwork. De Gea squarely beaten. In reply, Manchester United go running for a quick counter and nearly make it 3-v-2 but with Real Madrid players getting back, Pogba takes a shot from distance and it is blocked. Falls firmly in Navas’ arms.
0024 hrs IST: Manchester United doing well to close Real Madrid down and winning the half balls so far. Getting stuck in there and coming out with the ball. Mkhitaryan with a chance after nutmegging Ramos but stumbles on his way forward. Could have been interesting had he moved forward
0020 hrs IST: Chance for Bale to open the scoring but his odd shot goes over. Probably didn’t think the ball would get to him inside the box from a deflected Marcelo cross. Stuck a foot out, made good contact but it goes over
0015 hrs IST: And Manchester United get things underway. KICK OFF! Man Utd in their red and white kits. Again, Real is in their black kits.
0008 hrs IST: We’re approaching kick off. But first up there is some local dancing bits going on. Teams wait. Real Madrid, the home team, will be wearing black. Beautiful opening ceremony as deaf kids perform Coldplay’s Sky Full of Stars using sign language. This ceremony is significantly better than the Champions League ceremony involving Black Eyed Peas
2345 hrs IST: Some stats to bring to you. Spanish clubs won 7 of last 8 UEFA Super Cups – last defeat was Sevilla to Milan in 2007. Before that Galatasaray shocked Madrid in 2000. For English clubs, Super Cup not much of a priority or a happy hunting ground. No team has won it since 2005 when Liverpool beat CSKA Moscow. Manchester United haven’t won it since 1991!
