Tushar Kranti Bhattacharya, an activist from Nagpur, was arrested by Gujarat police on Tuesday and taken to Surat in connection with a 2010 case.
Shoma Sen, the activist’s wife, said, “My husband was returning by train after visiting his sister in Kolkata when the Gujarat police abducted him at around 6 a.m. The Gujarat police registered a false case against him in 2010 when he was lodged in a jail in Andhra Pradesh. The courts in Gujarat were informed that he was not an absconding accused but a prisoner. He was acquitted in all cases registered against him in Andhra Pradesh and had settled in Nagpur.”
Mr. Bhattacharya is said to have been charged under Section 124 of the IPC.
