Residents and shop owners around the Sivananda Circle in the city have approached the High Court of Karnataka, seeking directions to quash the government order giving approval for constructing a steel over bridge at Sivananda Circle junction on Hare Krishna Road.
The state government has announced in the budget that a steel over bridge would be constructed at a cost of Rs 19.85 crore for a distance of 1.5 kms.
The petitioners have contended that the entire project is misconceived on fact, legal and technical grounds. They have said that they want to prevent wastage of public money due to the ‘misconceived project.’ The petitioners have contended that the entire project would cause more inconvenience to the public and lead to more bottlenecks.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar directed the petitioners to submit a representation to Principal Secretary, Department of Urban Development and State Town Planning to consider their representation.
