University announces ninth cut-off for reserved category

Delhi University has released the ninth cut-off list for students under the reserved category as part of a special admissions drive to fill vacant seats for merit-based undergraduate courses.

The university has announced a list of colleges and the seats on offer, as per which admissions to several sought-after courses are still open.

Colleges, meanwhile, are in a fix as they have very few seats left. While leaving these seats vacant is not an option, colleges can’t reduce cut-off as that can lead to over- admission.

“Only those candidates who registered with DU, but were not admitted to any college, irrespective of the category, will be considered. For details about variation in cut-offs, the candidates are advised to contact the respective colleges on August 7,” the university said in a statement.

Students upset

The university has also asked reserved category students to complete admission formalities before August 9.

However, several reserved category students who have already taken admission to DU colleges were not happy as the fresh cut-off does not apply to them.

Upasana, who has taken admission in an off-campus college, said “According to DU rules, students are allowed to withdraw admission and approach a college of their choice if they meet the cut-off. However, the eight and ninth lists apply only to those who have not taken admission to any college.”

Several others, who were hoping to hear from DU about how colleges will fill vacant seats, are still awaiting instructions. The university had said that it would issue guidelines to colleges on how to fill the remaining seats on August 4. No notification had been issued till late on Sunday.
