Bike-borne duo robs 2 women of gold chains

Chain snatchers targeted two women in Jnanabharathi and Mahalakshmi Layout on Sunday and robbed them of their gold chains.

According to the police, two men on a bike followed Padmavathi, a resident of 11th Cross, Jnanabharathi, and robbed her of a 60-gram gold chain. The incident occurred around 6.15 pm near a private college. The duo followed her on a black bike and snatched her chain when she was about to reach her house after an evening walk.

In the other incident, around 8.45 pm, two men trailed Lalitha of Sathyanarayana Layout in Mahalakshmi Layout while she was returning home. They threatened her when she was walking on 1st A Main Road and snatched her 80-gram gold chain and sped off. Local residents gathered at the spot after she raised an alarm. However, the culprits had fled by then, said the police. The police said they were analysing CCTV camera footage from nearby areas to ascertain the identity of the culprits. The police suspect involvement of the same gang in both the cases.

Newlywed ends life

A homemaker committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Kamakshipalya on Sunday. The police gave her name as Prathima (19), a resident of 1st Main Road in Kamakshipalya. She had an affair with Kumar, a cab driver, and married him recently.

She committed suicide when Kumar was away at work. There was no response from inside when Kumar knocked on the door after returning home. He broke open the door and saw his wife’s body hanging from the ceiling, said the police. There was no death note.

Prathima’s mother Maheshwari, in a complaint to the police, stated that her daughter had taken the extreme step as she was tortured by Kumar.

Fake garments recovered

CCB sleuths have arrested a garment merchant on charges of selling fake readymade garments in the name of international brands.

he arrested is Anish (24), a resident of Old Bagalur Layout. The police have seized fake garments with labels of Allen Solly, Puma, Levis, Burberry and Adidas, all worth Rs 2.61 lakh, from him.

On a tip-off, the police raided his store at St Thomas Town and seized the clothes.
