Keen on directing Jr. NTR if I get a chance, Phalke awardee says

Veteran filmmaker and Phalke awardee K.Viswanth has said that he is ready to take up any new directorial assignments.

“Some non-resident India producers have approached me. Let us see how things shape up,” he said in an interaction with mediapersons here on Sunday.

He was still keen on directing Junior NTR if gets a chance, he said in reply to a question.

However, he was not for writing screen play for films directed by others as this would not work well, he said and referred to Kannada film “Jeevana Jyothi” based on the film made by him which was a ‘flop’.

“Soul will be missing if one tries to make a xerox copy-like film in another language,” he said.

He evaded a directly reply when asked whether he was ready to don the grease paint at this ripe age.

He felt ‘humbled’ on conferment of Phalke award, the highest award in cinema. Though he did not aspire for it, it was a very great honour for him, he added.

Though he had not much knowledge about literature and music, he had ‘divine love’ for them, he said referring to Sankarabharanam, the magnum opus of his which struck a chord with music lovers. My parents are my inspiration for me to make good films, he said.

‘Twin-poets’

Recalling his association with Jnanpith Awardee writer and poet Dr. C. Narayana Reddy who penned lyrics for songs in films directed by him like Swathi Kiranam, he said Cinare paid compliment to him saying they were twin-poets.

He felt disappointed that noted film director Dasari Narayana Rao who wished to act with him, did not get a chance to do so.

He was happy directing family-oriented films striking a balance between entertainment and education, he said. Though grammar of film making could be taught in film-making schools, creativity had to come from within. An attempt could be made to imbibe creativity by seeing others' creative works, he added.

Asked about incidents of Tollywood personalities getting addicted to drugs coming to the fore, he said ‘the problem is there in the society at large. When it is related to actors, the issue gets magnified in the media.’
