Comedy playlets competition concludes

VIJAYAWADA: Jokes, dance, music, Hasyavadham and comedy playlets marked the conclusion of the 22nd Sumadhura Kala Niketan’s comedy playlets competitions which witnessed felicitations to veteran actor Giribabu and theatre actor Saroja.

The morning session kickstarted with veteran theatre artist Chalapathi sharing jokes both real-life incidents and ‘manufactured’ ones. Later, members of Vijayawada-based Hasya Club Kamalakanth and Ravi come out with a skit on retrenchment which evoked a good dose of laughter.

However, the event of the day was Hasyavadhanam, which saw Jayanthi Lakshmi Narasimham answering several quarries laced with humour and parody. He branded mosquito as a true secular as it treated everyone the same when it came to biting and it is also a blood relation of the human beings. His articulate parody narration of street dogs was well received by the audience.

Dance sequences by Sirisha Pranav and Hemanth and Padmasri dance troupe were well appreciated and the 15-minute music rendition by Mayur Orchestra’s Mohammad Khaja and Pragna came as an icing on the cake.

“Every year, the morning session of the Sunday programme is earmarked to local talent in other segments of art forms. We are promoting artists in dance, singing, and mimicry to add fizz to our event,” said organizing secretary P.S.N. Murthy.

The evening session witnessed two playlets— Vijayawada’s Geetanjali Theatre Arts presentation ‘Anaganaga O Office’ and Hyderabad-based Murali Kala Nilayam presentation ‘Take it Easy’.
