In an attempt to wriggle out of a tough situation that the BJP finds itself in over the Mahadayi river water dispute between Karnataka and Goa, party’s Karnataka unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday announced that he would soon lead a delegation to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over the issue. He was speaking at the inauguration of a convention of the party’s State unit here.

“I will appeal to the Goa Chief Minister to take a stand in the larger interest of the people of seven districts of the State. There is a shortage of drinking water. The BJP is committed to getting justice to the people of the State,” he said, and added that he would call on the Goa Chief Minister in the last week of August to find a lasting solution to the issue.

Mr. Yeddyurappa criticised Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for “dividing the society by sowing the poisonous seed” to draw electoral mileage, referring to the issue of demand for minority religion tag for Lingayat. “People will teach a befitting lesson to the Chief Minister for this diabolical move. The swamijis, the mutts and other religious leaders have categorically clarified that Veerashaivas and Lingayats are one entity and there is no question of allowing any division,” he said.
