Frantic search operations continued on Sunday, braving inclement weather, to trace Sana Fathima, a four-year-old girl feared to have been swept away in a swollen stream near her house at Panathur here on Thursday.
The search involving local and coastal police, assisted by expert divers, continued all through Sunday. The operation had to be suspended by evening, A.P. Jayakumar, sub-inspector at the Rajapuram station said.
Even in fading light, the team searched along the 7-km stretch up to Balanthode and in two check dam points in the river, he said.
Superintendent of Police K.G. Simon said it was unlikely that the girl was abducted from her house premises. However, the police were probing on those lines too, Mr. Jayakumar said. Sana, daughter of Ibrahim, an autorickshaw driver in the locality, had gone missing around 4 p.m. on Thursday from near the stream. Her footwear and umbrella were found on the banks.
